Since 2016, Burundi Red Cross (BRC) has implemented a sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) project in Bujumbura Municipality and in four IDP sites (Rural Bujumbura and Rumonge) together with the Netherland Red Cross (NLRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as well as the Ministry in charge of gender, national education and social workers, the Burundi Health Services, and the justice system.

The project is focusing on a holistic approach aiming at supporting SGBV survivors and creating a safer environment for the whole community. The project includes health response services, psychosocial support (PSS), legal and economic support as well as referral to safe house services.
