Casa+ is a semi-independent shelter run by the Italian Red Cross in Rome, with support from UNAR and the Waldensian Church. It provides safe housing and tailored support for LGBTQIA+ people facing homotransphobia or social exclusion. The facility hosts up to eight residents, offering psychological care, legal assistance, and empowerment programmes to help them rebuild their lives and achieve autonomy.

CASA+ provides not just accommodation, but holistic support, including psychological services, legal aid, education, and job training. A personalized plan is created for each resident to support their path toward independence and social reintegration. Special attention is given to affirming gender identity and creating a safe, respectful environment. Many LGBTQIA+ people have gone on to secure stable housing, employment, or return to school. Ongoing challenges include navigating bureaucratic hurdles and the shortage of long-term housing. Casa+ stands as a promising model of inclusive, rights-based sheltering for vulnerable LGBTQIA+ people.
