Discover how Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS) are transforming the lives of children in conflict-affected regions of Pakistan. This innovative initiative by the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, in collaboration with the Norwegian Red Cross, integrates education, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), and child protection components to create safe and nurturing environments for children.
In North and South Waziristan and Orakzai, where ongoing conflicts and post-military operations have devastated infrastructure and restricted access to essential services, CFS offer a beacon of hope. These spaces are strategically located within Basic Health Units (BHUs), providing a secure environment for children to learn, play, and receive psychosocial support while their mothers access healthcare.
Our CFS initiatives are tailored to the unique needs of each community, offering a blend of educational and recreational activities. Children aged 4 to 8 engage in diverse indoor and outdoor activities led by trained facilitators, fostering emotional, physical, and cognitive development. This intersectoral approach ensures that children's health, educational, and psychosocial needs are comprehensively addressed.
Supported by dedicated teams, these spaces also play a crucial role in raising awareness about child protection and promoting gender inclusivity. By providing separate spaces for male and female facilitators, we ensure that all children, especially girls, can participate fully and safely.
