This case study provides an overview of the Italian Red Cross programming to protect and assist Unaccompanied and Separated Children. This includes through programming in reception facilities, Restoring Family Links, delivering healthcare and psychosocial support, aiding children to access legal assistance, and supporting social integration.

This technical guide can be used by the IFRC and National Societies when designing and delivering programming to prevent or respond to child marriage, either in humanitarian settings or in longer-term development settings. It can also assist in developing protection, gender and inclusion (PGI) programming focused specifically on child marriage prevention or response.

Turkish Red Crescent through its 21 Community Centres in 20 cities and branches in Türkiye delivers Restoring Family Link services for children including Family Reunifications, Tracing, and Family Messages in coordination with other NGOs and Governmental Institutions.

The Angola Red Cross Society (CVA) works to reunite members of families, including children, separated or missing as part of its Restoring Family Links (RFL) interventions. CVA is actively committed to clarifying the fate of missing persons, facilitating the exchange of red cross messages, free phone calls (family messages), and reuniting separated families.

Kenya Red Cross implemented a Sexual and Reproductive Health and SGBV project, “Hope beyond COVID 19”, that delivered services to populations in vulnerable situations in Nairobi County. Part of the project deliverables was setting up a GBV unit, where survivors of violence could access free comprehensive medical services. Working closely with the Nairobi City County Government, KRCS set up a fabricated container that will be utilized as a GBV Unit where girls and women can access clinical care, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, and a child therapy room.

The Safe Steps Kids programme is an initiative by the Prudence Foundation developed in partnership with the International Federation Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) and the Cartoon Network. The programme aims to educate children about life-threatening situations, including online bullying, and provide them with practical, easy-to-understand tips. It uses multiple platforms such as cartoon videos, infographics and informative website to reach millions of children across Asia.

The Malawi Red Cross Society implements a project named, “Basic Health and Psychological Care for Children Infected and Affected by HIV and AIDS.” The project is being implemented in Ntchisi district targeting 5 Group Village Heads: Nthondo, Chikupila, Mpanang’ombe, Kanjeza and Chiziko.
